Following this experiment, what benefits do you see for yourself, of living within the 2030 1.5oC targets?
I think the main benefit I saw doing the experiment is the will of trying to change my lifestyle. The project stimulated me in making some changes in my daily routine in order to stay within the target.
What are the low-carbon activities you find great and would like to make part of your life?
The low-carbon activities I experimented with are linked to food because it was the main category in my lifestyle that drove me out of the target. I really enjoyed the small changes that I made and I want to continue to include them as a part of my life.
What activities seem incompatible (even with probable efficiencies) with the 1.5oC targets?
The activities that seem incompatible with the 1.5oC targets are gas consumption and sport/leisure activities. The former is impossible to manage especially if you live in a building with a centralized heating system and the bill of gas consumption is included in your rent. The latter is very high and it sounds strange that having an addiction to sports activities would impact me so badly my tracking.
Do you think we can achieve 2030 1.5oC targets while leading quality, dignifying, healthy lives and why?
I do not think so, unfortunately. The problem is that is way too hard staying inside the target, especially if you do not have a vegetarian or vegan-based diet. In addition to that, there is the problem linked to transport. Personally, I use only public transport and I had been out of the target. I do not imagine how badly should be considering a frequent use of cars or frequent use of planes for travel.
What are the challenges and opportunities you foresee to leading quality, dignifying, healthy lives with half (2040 1.5oC targets) and even a third (2050 1.5oC targets) of the 2030 1.5oC carbon budget?
I think there are a lot of challenges that we must face. Most of them concern our lifestyle, what we eat, what kind of transport we use or activities we do. But there is a limit in what we can do because sometimes we are obliged in making some choices due to the lack of policies.
For those who wish to, please share as much or as little as you want in addition to the questions above in a more free format. If it can help, here are some guiding questions: “How are you feeling about 1.5 degree lifestyles”? “How would you describe this experiment to someone new”? “What else would you like to share”?
This experiment was a very good opportunity for understanding a real problem that we usually neglect. Personally, I studied a lot in this field concerning emissions, carbon footprint, and all the things related to them. But I needed to participate in this project for understanding how much impacts have my lifestyle
