What things did you enjoy the most about your experience this week?
Taking the car in California is sometimes difficult to avoid, but there are definitely some trips that can be replaced by walking, biking or taking public transport. Here the BART subway system is a convenient way to get to San Francisco and I enjoyed going to one of my favourite spots on the short hiking trails in the Presidio Park for sights of the Golden Gate Bridge.
What were the main challenges you faced during the week?
I fell off the wagon, already! We made lasagna, which meant eating meat for a few meals this week. This drastically increased my carbon footprint, although my average for that week was still under my target budget.
What were your main lessons learned of the week?
This is not a new lesson but leaving the car at home for a trip to the city is always the way to go for me. You don’t have to worry about traffic or parking, and the subway ticket is even cheaper than a bridge toll. Many people are put off from using the subway system here because many trains are old and it has a bad reputation with crime. As a European living in the US, I wish there was more funding for public transport here!
What would have made it easier for you to achieve or surpass your target this week?
There are some great vegan lasagna recipes that I should try!
