1.5 Degree Lifestyle

What is 1five.org?

  • A citizen science project led by people passionate about climate mitigation and involving 15 to 30 participants in several countries.
  • We will experiment with the 1.5°C Lifestyle by tracking our daily carbon footprint & sharing the joys and challenges.
  • A 4-week pilot experiment is set to start on September 20th 2021
  • A project report will is to be released here in November 2021
  • 1five.org is hosted by Hot or Cool Institute and funded by the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation.

If you are interested in finding out more or joining the waiting list for the next phase of the experiment, please reach out to us at [email protected] and help define the foundations of a climate friendly and resilient society..

Pilot Project Results and Public Tools

Pilot Participants were asked to track the emissions impact of all their actions for a month, as well as contributing with stories and photos documenting their challenges and triumphs. The method and results are analysed in the Report and Interactive Dasboard.

Anyone can start a 4 week pilot using the Publicaly available spreadsheet.
Note: The Report and Spreadsheet Intellectual Property is released under a Attribution 4.0 International (CC BY 4.0) license.

This project has been used to refine the concept of living within the 1.5ªC targets, make the technical tools publicaly available and start growing a community of citizen scientists. Is a great place to start, but it’s just the beginning!

Why is it important to live a 1.5°C Lifestyle?

The IPCC has calculated a GHG emissions scenario that has the potential to enable us to maintain global temperature at 1.5°C.

Our project aims to help translate these theoretical numbers into real life, so we can start to grasp what such targets means in terms of lifestyle & how policy can contribute to helping humanity achieve these targets.

In our approach we are inspired by the methodology and proposals of the 2019 Report "1.5-Degree Lifestyles: Targets and options for reducing lifestyle carbon footprints"
